Date & Almond Smoothie

With Ramadan right around the corner, the recipes will be focused on food that can be created when you're bleary eyed and half awake! The first in the instalment is a date and almond smoothie. It's free from artificial sweeteners (yet quite sweet), quick to make and extremely nourishing in preparation for the long fasting days.

Servings: 1
Prep+cooking time: less than 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened medjool dates (or any dates you like, as long as they are soft and fleshy)

  • 1/3 cup almonds (whole if you like a crunchy texture, flaked or flour if not)

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup natural yogurt

  • ice cubes

  • nutmeg, grated (optional)

Instructions
1) Chop medjool dates so they can pass through a food blender easily. Pour in the dates with the almonds and milk and blend for 30 seconds until a creamy paste forms. Use a spoon to make sure the dates aren't stuck to the blade and blend for another 30 seconds.

2) Add yogurt, ice cubes and grate nutmeg and blend for a final 30 seconds. It should make enough for a tall glass.
